Roisi Reviews – Drinki

Drinki

Living in London, nights out are a regular occurrence. They can also get bloody expensive. Being a Scottish stereotype (ie. very money conscious) I am always on the look out for a bargain. So if you could walk in to a bar and immediately get a free drink, would you do it?

I first stumbled across Drinki when I moved to London last year, and was desperate for something that made the pressure on my wallet even a tiny bit easier. I gave it a quick go, but at that time it was restricted to being used only by women, more of a “girl’s night out” concept. As I go out with my partner a lot, it just would have meant us going to bars where I’d get a free drink, but we’d still pay for his!

However, this past month Drinki has had a comprehensive update, which includes, among many improvements, the ability for men to join in on the fun!

The Importance of Doing Nothing

This is how I spent a large portion of my holiday

This is how I spent a large portion of my holiday

As I write this, I’m in the middle of a week-long holiday. When I tell people that I’m off for a week, the response is always the same. “oh awesome, where are you going?!” or a variation of the same.

The answer? I’m not going anywhere. I deliberately booked a week off so that I could rest, relax and spend some time at home. I have a couple of things I’m planning on doing, and I’m hoping to get some writing done. However, more or less I’m planning on bingeing on Netflix, sleeping in and playing computer games.

When I tell people this, the reaction tends to be one of surprise, disappointment and confusion. “No but what are you DOING?” they ask me. It’s like the concept of using my precious holiday to just hang out is a completely alien. Occasionally, and I know my wonderful friends don’t intend it, I feel somehow less of a person for really wanting to just stay at home.

It’s Been a Long Time

Goodness me, three months! That’s…well, that’s pretty standard for me if I’m perfectly honest. I’m not exactly stellar at keeping up with things, especially when I have a lot going on.

So, what HAS been going on? Mainly, I got a spanky new job! I’m now a Project Manager, which is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time, and something that I really feel I’m good at. As a consequence, I’ve been really busy, and I just haven’t had any room in my head to write posts or brainstorm ideas. The majority of my energy has gone on simply doing my new job well.

So what’s next for this little blog right here? Well, I’d quite like to get back to what it was supposed to be in the first place. I got a little caught up in the blogging community, and by extension a slight sense of competition that comes with it. I felt like maybe I had to write a certain type of post in order to be noticed. Only really, I don’t mind if I’m not noticed, I just want to write, maybe be helpful, and talking about the things I like.

I have a week off work to do nothing, a staycation if you will. In amongst a sea of Netflix and chocolate, I’m going to get some posts written. For the first time in a little while, I have a little backlog of ideas in my head that I want to get out. About writing, about life, and yes some little reviews as well.

Will I keep it up? Who knows, but I do know that I’m going to take it a little easier on myself. Also, I’m going to space out my posts a little more and stop being so impatient to post. That way, at least the content will stick around before I run out of steam again!

For those still reading this, thank you for waiting. For any newbies, hello! And for me, have fun and don’t stress about this little corner of the internet, that isn’t what it’s for.

Why Aren’t You Watching…? – Supernatural

supernatural

So What’s it all About?

The two brothers at the centre of Supernatural, Sam and Dean Winchester, have a troubled family life. A mother who died when they were children, and a father who took them on the road while he worked across the country. Oh, and did I mention their father’s job was as a demon hunter?

Sam tries to get out of the family business of Supernatural investigation, but when their father goes missing, Dean recruits Sam back into the life of a Hunter, to try and find out what happened. Throw in some ghosts, demons, and some good old fashioned 80s rock music, and you have a recipe for ridiculous madness.

Roisi Reviews – Slendertoxtea 14-day Teatox*

slendertoxtea

Slendertoxtea took me back to my childhood.

By that, I mean that moment when you’re a toddler and you’ve just been toilet trained. You know that you’re supposed to go in the toilet, but you have not yet learned the cues your body gives you in order to make it to the toilet in time to be entirely polite about the whole situation. At the end of the day, sometimes it’d just feel like you’d be better off sticking with the nappies.

My body was not a fan of the teatox. Neither was my boyfriend’s. Basically, it was bad times all round.

Tech Girl About Town… – #mychocbloggers Chocolate Making Workshop

I’ve always been a little nervous about attending blogger meetups, I’m never sure what to do with myself! However, when Lauren from LDNmeetup announced that she was organising a chocolate making workshop, I could hardly say no! So I made the journey in to Regent’s Canal to join learn more about chocolate and maybe make some new friends in the process!

Before the carnage that is chocolate making

Before the carnage that is chocolate making

My Chocolate is a company in the UK that specialises in Chocolate Making workshops for both corporate and private events. Set up 8 years ago by CEO Hannah Sexton, with the remainder of her student loan after dropping out of university (brave girl!) it has grown each year and now holds events in cities across the UK. I love seeing a business set up and run by a strong woman, and Hannah was really friendly and approachable, chatting to us all throughout.

Fortnightly Roundup – April 12 – April 26

Weekly Roundup

This Fortnight’s Good Things

  • I was back on the Radio Badger podcast! I’ve had a little bit of time off it so it was good to get back to it. My episode should be out later this week :)
  • To celebrate the release of the project we’ve been working at work, Fortnum and Mason, we went out for a bit of a party at private members club The Library on a Friday night. Turns out that literary based cocktails are very moreish and VERY strong. Also, my love for Caipirinhas has not abated.
  • I wrote my most popular post ever, about Covet Me, the new social sharing website! It was very well received, and I’ll hopefully be working with the company in the future which is very exciting. Plus I got £30 to spend on ASOS from the crazy first day of sharing!
  • On Thursday I went to see Grouper at St John’s at Hackney. Oddest venue, oddest gig, but in a good way! The music is relaxed and Liz Harris creates these amazing soundscapes that were PERFECT for a church. By the end everyone in the audience was in a trance, sitting or lying down, eyes closed listening to the music. It was really lovely.
  • I just got back from the #mychocbloggers meetup! It was so much fun and I met loads of lovely new blogger ladies. Post coming up in the next couple of days about that, but here I’ll just say HUGE thanks to My Chocolate UK for a lovely day out.
